Trampoline

“Can you believe this?” Naruto asked, rubbing his hands in excitement. “Free pass – free pass – to watch girls on trampolines.”

“You are an idiot,” Sasuke muttered, looking around the university’s gymnastic facility, noting the exits, and mentally plotting multiple escape routes.

“Relax.” Naruto nudged his shoulder. “No one will know you here. You can go back to being antisocial and ‘I-hate-everything-because-I’m-a-badass’ Sasuke in like, fifteen minutes.”

“Why are we here again?”

“What, besides the girls and the trampolines?”

Sasuke narrowed his eyes at him.

SasuHina Month 2017 Prompt #1: Trampoline
All of my oneshots are linked together for this month. The hope is I do one a day. (i doubt it will happen)

Hiding underneath the trampoline was something Neji-nii had told her not to do. He had been firm, even stern and Hinata had stared at him with eyes wide and open and tear filled. She had nodded, she had agreed to never do it again.

She… had lied.

The prickling discomfort of the lie sat unhappily in her young six year old mind and she contemplated what a bad person she was. Because, like everyone told her regularly, only bad people lied and here she was under the trampoline.

Bonafide liar.

This did not do enough to drag her from beneath the darkness of the circular contraption. Although it made being beneath it uncomfortable it did not distract enough from the insanity of ladybugs that buzzed and fluttered beneath the dark netting. Here the grass had not been cut for some time, the flowers that grew were wild and vivacious and reminded her of Ino and Sakura and Tenten. She breathed in the damp earthy soil and the cool feel of grass almost sharp against her fingers. It was like feathers or silk or ribbon.

How strange that lying would get her so much delight.

The aphids were abundant too below the shadow of the trampoline. For that reason the ladybugs came en masse. Their wings whirred with the fervent beat of hunters  and she watched as they zipped past her face unconcerned by the giant so fascinated with their red shells and pretty black markings. There was something beautiful about the creatures, the red and black seemed elegant and raw somehow.

A creak of metal springs made her freeze, staring with terrified fascination as sneakered young feet climbed the ladder onto the trampoline and began to shift the dark material above her head.

“Sasuke you jerk, don’t double bounce me!” Naruto’s vibrant voice filled the air with all the sunshine’s of the summer thus far despite his irritability and Hinata felt herself heat to a super nova of her own.

Laying flat on her back she pressed a hand to her mouth and watched with growing terror as the two boys hopped on the trampoline idly, Naruto arguing and Sasuke silent as the grave as usual.

It was easy to see them through the mesh material, tightly knitted but not solid. They tumbled and played and for a moment Hinata thought she might even have heard Sasuke grunt out something that might have been a chuckle.

“Where is she anyway?” Naruto finally asked, looking around and Sasuke shrugged, going back to bouncing, looking strange and ancient for a six year old with his hands in his pockets.

“Neji said he would find her. Do you think Mister Fugaku will be busy for a long time? I wish we had a trampoline at home.” Naruto bum dropped and Hinata flinched, realizing that if they did that near her face likely as not she would get squashed. The pain she would handle, it was the embarrassment that might kill her though.

“Father said it would be awhile.” Sasuke shrugged absently.
“Oh that’s why you wanted to come.” Naruto laughed and Hinata stared in awe as he flipped expertly, landing without a fuss on his feet. Face still super heated she pressed harder against her mouth to keep a sigh of admiration from spilling over her lips.

Sasuke did not reply, the dark look he shot at the blonde loaded with venom. Naruto took it in stride, grinning back beautifully. “Well, why don’t we go look for her? She’s why you came, right?”

Hinata frowned slightly then, blinking hard as she watched them flipping and bouncing. Hearing for the first time the topic of their discussion she squinted, puzzled.

It was not uncommon for Mr.Uchiha to come pay her father a visit. They were in business together and therefore their families were often in each other’s company. Having Sasuke and his adopted brother Naruto visit was not uncommon either and had she known they were on their way she would not have hidden beneath the trampoline.

Perhaps she would have chosen a closet. Facing up to Naruto’s intense blue eyes and overwhelming smile had on more than one occasion caused her swoons to turn into full out faints. Neji was even starting to suggest that something was wrong with her head and Father was ruminating calling special doctors.

If they found her passed out beneath the trampoline they were for sure going to want her to talk to doctors. She could just imagine the unimpressed tightness of her father’s mouth and Neji’s drooping disappointed shoulders.

“Yo!” Naruto’s voice shouting made her snap out of her reverie and she jumped. Sasuke who had been swaying on the trampoline a few feet from her turned and through the darkness of the mesh met her gaze. They stared back and forth for a long agonized eternity while Naruto waved at Neji coming towards them from the house.

“Did ya find her?”

“No.” Neji waved a hand in an exasperated manner. “I have no idea where Hinata went."

Naruto turned to Sasuke then, smirking knowingly. "No Hinata for you- OUCH!”
Sasuke shoved him, hard. He sent him flying off the trampoline and with a crack onto his back on the grass.

“Hey!” Neji cried. “Don’t do that! If someone gets hurt I’ll be the one in trouble!”

“Let’s go.” Sasuke snapped, hurriedly climbing off the trampoline and grabbing Naruto by the sleeve to drag towards the Hyuuga House.

Neji and Naruto gaped, baffled as the Uchiha began to storm away. “You jerk! What is wrong with you?” Naruto’s voice boomed even from a distance. “You could have killed me!"

"You Uchiha as so unstable…” Neji growled.

Hinata lay still long after the sounds of them disappeared, until she heard the patio door slide open and closed, until the only sound was that of the wind through the grass of the yard and the rustle of leaves from the weeping willow over the pond.

Sasuke Uchiha had seen her, had looked straight at her and as her own face had flooded with humiliation and heat his own cheeks had flared pink. Confusion swirled through her head like the wind through the wind chimes jingling in the breeze.

Little did she know inside Sasuke ignored the two boys urging him to come play, busy instead with memorizing the image of Hinata tucked among the wild grass and flowers, covered in ladybugs, with eyes as wide and luminous as the moon.

“Why is your face so red?” Naruto snorted, poking Sasuke’s cheek sharply and earning a sharp swat for his trouble. “Thinking of your girlfriend?”

“That’s not funny.” Neji growled, glaring.

Sasuke sniffed arrogantly and grabbed one of the books strewn over Neji’s bedroom to look at, seeing nothing.

“No.” He finally snapped. “It’s just hot out.”

Bonafide liar that he was, through and through.

SasuHina Month

Day 1: Trampoline

No profits are being made off of this. In case my Full Time job didn’t tip you off on that.

This is a drabble I wrote branching from @delightfulharmonypoetry‘s Runaway. I just had to borrow the kids for this one. I did ask for permission on this in case you were wondering. The plan was to post in the afternoon but I’m an impatient ho so here it is early. (:

The return of spring and warmer weather invited for a lot of
time spent outside. The sun’s gentle rays on cool skin and endless blue skies
were enjoyed as days got longer in preparation for summer.

Sasuke was happy he could indulge his family’s days and
afternoons with running and playing in the well-kept backyard of the home he
and Hinata had put together. He had gone to great lengths to ensure the
children would always be safe and that Hinata could rest easy whenever they
ventured outside to enjoy the weather.

So he was incredibly annoyed when one “uncle Kiba” had shown
up one Saturday afternoon, unannounced and red faced from exertion of hauling a
heavy box up their drive way. It was one thing to drop in, but to drop in with “gifts”
had Sasuke reaching for the nearest sharp object to throw at his “friend.”

One look at the colorful label on the box had Hinata’s brow
furrowed in worry, bottom lip pulled in between her teeth anxiously as the kids
crowded around Kiba and the box.

“What is it?” Itachi had asked, coming from around Sasuke to
get a closer look. Sasuke’s plan of covering the box with his body before the
boys could understand what was being offered to them wasn’t working out as
Naruto squealed in delight.

“A trampoline! It was on sale. I thought to myself, ‘I know
a couple of kids who could get some real use out of this.’ So who wants to help
set it up?”

Sasuke was about to interject with a stern “thanks but no
thanks,” but the kids were too fast. Naruto and Itachi were already clawing at
the box, tearing at the cardboard viciously as Sora hovered just behind them, drawn
downstairs from the commotion. Her mischievous grin a mirror image of her
father’s as she watched her younger brothers get to work.

Haku came and stood by Sasuke, watching with mild interest
as the others started dragging the pieces of the rig towards the back door. The
three of them shouting promises to come back and pick up the mess in a minute.

“This’ll be interesting,” Haku chuckled, trailing after them
with his hands in his pockets.

Hinata ran a hand over her hair to smooth it. “You… really
shouldn’t have Kiba.”

“That’s putting it lightly. I hope for your sake the first
emergency room visit is for a minor injury because I’m sending you the bill on
that one.” Sasuke bit, finally resigning himself to helping his children with
putting together their new toy lest they do it wrong and it falls apart
mid-use. Kiba had the audacity to beam at them.

“You guys worry too much, they’ll be-“

A loud crash followed by a peel of laughter and angry
shouting as an argument erupted outside cut him off. He frowned.

“First ER visit you said? I’ll pay for the second one too.”

dear fandom,

what. the fuck. are you doing?

these numbers are even worse when you consider that half of the comments are from the author themselves, thanking the precious few people who took the time to leave them comments. if you are looking at these numbers and not seeing anything wrong, then congratulations! you’re (probably) part of the problem.

“but hey,” I can hear you calling, “I leave the author kudos, what about that!?”

okay. let me be frank with you. a kudos is the press of a button. it takes you less than a second. it is nothing. it is nothing, because it tells the author nothing. (the author tried out a new kink, did you enjoy their take on it? they revealed a plot twist that has been hinted at for a couple of chapters, did you guess at it or were you taken completely by surprise? they wrote a rare pair, had you considered this pairing before? did they maybe even convert you to this ship with their fic? the author tried their hand at a rather sensitive/dark/etc topic, did it resonate with you? the slowburn finally turned into a full on burn, was it worth the wait? was it good for you? so on and so on.)

I’m actually struggling to find a fitting simile here…. a kudos is basically the equivalent of a shoulder shrug and the sound “eh”.

authors spend hours, weeks, months, years working on these fics so you can read and enjoy them. and you’re telling me you don’t even have 5 seconds to tell the author a simple “I enjoyed this, thanks!”? does this free, versatile, free, heart-wrenching, free, mind-blowing, free, seemingly endless well of free escapism mean so little to you?

and yes, in case you’re wondering, the same goes for likes on tumblr. a like tells the creator nothing. a reblog on the other hand is you going, “hey guys, look at this cool art/fic/moodset/mixtape/etc I found!”, and gives the creator a chance at even more feedback on their works! same goes for tags, and of course comments.

I’m not posting this as a writer. I haven’t written a thing in over half a year. this is coming from a fandom grandma who knows how fandom used to be.
and who can guess how fandom will be if this ugly trend continues; especially if you continue to leave the stage to antis/haters and trolls. the only voices creators are reliably hearing right now are the negative ones. you reap what you sow, fandom.

no new content in your favourite tags. zero fics for the latest action blockbuster even though the movie has already been out for over a week. abandoned and deleted works. fandoms that shrink and shrink and vanish; maybe long before you ever have the chance to immerse yourself in them.

and it will be nothing less than you deserve.

Let’s just repeat that again folks:

the only voices creators are reliably hearing right now are the negative ones.

Feedback is so so freakin’ important. Especially if you consider the positive-to-negative ratio and how many positive comments it takes to make up for one negative. Lack of response is just as bad as negativity, especially taking into consideration those stats like above.

I have had people LITERALLY APOLOGIZING ME FOR WRITING A REVIEW/COMMENT.

W.H.Y.????????

I love to hear from you. I need to hear from you. Like said in the original post; kudos are wordless. They basically mean nothing compared to the reviews. I wonder every time when I get a new kudos that what made the reader press it; did they like how the fic started? Are they fan of the fic setting, the pair, the world, the theme? Was there a situation they enjoyed a lot and thus they pressed the kudos? Was there a dialogue which they liked a lot? Is the suspense reason for the kudos? Or the text type, how it’s written, its visuals and/or grammar? Or are they curious and like to press kudos on each fic which piques their curiosity? Did they like the length of the chapter or the fact the fic keeps updating regularly? Was there something which delighted them? Or did something unexpected happen?

I can’t underline this enough; KUDOS = VOICELESS, like thumps up and that’s it while from the author’s point of a view it looks like you stroll across the fic, show them thumps up and then what? Continue reading it? Stay a little longer? Stroll forward? I don’t know, we don’t know. We just stand back turned to the readers and hear someone yelling us “They gave you kudos” without any further information of why it was given and what the reader does afterwards.

Commenting is not bothering anyone, stupid, useless, not too much of a text, not too little of the text. It’s a personal message for a creator. It keeps them fueled.

The number one reason in 90% of the cases when a fic/comic/original story doesn’t continue is because the lack of feedback disheartened the creator.

EDIT: I noticed from the tags someone saying that if you don’t know what to comment, you can just copy-paste your fave moment from the chapter/fic and say you liked that part the best. Easy, personal and definitely tells a lot for the author.

….I’ll just… quietly leave this here….

Tension

midnightwhims:

Dear, anon… Something like this is to your liking, I hope.

Indeed, I hope.

Itachi knew his brother well.

At eighteen, Sasuke had yet to grow out of the habit of disliking everyone he met upon first meeting them. Most people either gave up on trying to be on good terms with Sasuke or were persistent enough to where Sasuke could tolerate them.

But…Sasuke disliked Hinata, and she was neither someone who cared to get into Sasuke’s good graces nor did she hide her contempt for his attitude towards her.

Neji was just as perplexed when it came to Hinata.

At seventeen, Hinata had no true enemies despite the superficial ones acquired by being a Leaf shinobi. It took him a while to realize that her indifference towards Sasuke was actually genuine coldness towards him.

Neji wouldn’t have cared, but even he had to admit that out of all the enemies she could have had, Sasuke Uchiha was not a wise choice. He honestly had no clue what could have happened between the two to make them dislike each other so strongly.

So, from one brother figure to the next, Itachi and Neji decided to settle the issue once and for all.

“What is this?”

Sasuke stood at Itachi’s side at the entrance of the Training Grounds. On the other side, he could see Neji and Hinata situated under a tree. The two had been talking, but once Hinata heard Sasuke’s voice, she turned towards the Uchihas, wide eyed then stone faced.

“Hear us out,” Itachi said as he urged Sasuke towards the Hyuugas.

“What is this?” Sasuke demanded again, glaring hard at the Hyuugas.

Or perhaps the one deeming the trees more worthy of her glare than the youngest Uchiha.

When the two pairs were face to face, Neji and Itachi wondered if they were making the right choice. The tension between Sasuke and Hinata was so thick, it was amazing either of them still remained where they were instead of storming off or attacking each other.

Neji cleared his throat. “Hinata, it has come to my attention that you are not particularly fond of Sasuke.”

Hinata looked at Neji slowly, her stone expression unchanging.

“And, Sasuke,” Itachi said, “for whatever reason, Hinata seems to irritate you more than most.”

Sasuke glared at him, fists clenched at his sides.

“With that being said,” Itachi went on, “Neji and I have concluded that whatever unresolved issues you both have should be settled. We think a spar is in order.”

Sasuke stared at Itachi for a long minute. “What?”

“You two should spar,” Itachi said.

“We’ll supervise,” Neji said. “We think both of you are past the point to talk through whatever animosity it is that has both of you so cold towards each other.”

“And you’ve never actually sparred with each other without interference,” Itachi said. “We promise to not intervene unless it becomes life-threatening.”

Hinata and Sasuke didn’t say anything. They stared at their respective family member for a thick moment before turning their stern stares on one another.

“Fine,” Hinata said, pulling out a hair tie and tying her hair back.

Sasuke waited a moment before pulling out a headband to hold his bangs back.

After Hinata threw her jacket to the side, she and Sasuke walked to the center of the field in silence. Neji and Itachi watched from underneath the tree with the sickening feeling that they had both made a mistake.

And then Hinata and Sasuke clashed before either Itachi or Neji knew what was happening. Chakra sprayed and metal collided, each attack strong enough to be felt on the edge of the field. In a blur, Sasuke and Hinata were savagely engaged in hand-to-hand combat, making both Itachi and Neji cringe when an attack landed successfully.

“Maybe we should stop them,” Neji said.

Sasuke’s foot narrowly missed shattering Hinata’s hip.

“It’s not life-threatening,” Itachi said.

Hinata sent a forceful jab of chakra intended for Sasuke’s shoulder cratering into a tree on the opposite side of the field.

The two kept this up for another minute before Hinata unexpectedly turned heel and ran into the thicket of trees. Sasuke hesitated a second before giving chase, catching up with her quickly. They disappeared into the trees, but soon after, destructive crashes and ground-shaking booms filled the air.

Neji and Itachi stared in stunned horror as the sounds continued.

Then the sounds stopped.

Neji and Itachi shared a worried glance before darting across the field. Before they entered the trees, Hinata screamed, sending the two into a new wave of speed and worry. They followed the mess of splintered tree trunks and torn bushes until they could hear the two up ahead.

“I’m tired of this,” Sasuke panted hoarsely. ‘I’m tired of you.”

“I can’t take this,” Hinata whispered miserably.

Neji and Itachi finally got Sasuke and Hinata in their sights but stopped abruptly feet away from them.

Sasuke had Hinata pinned to the ground, holding her hands firmly above her head. He was in between Hinata’s legs, but it appeared as though Hinata was keeping him there, whether or not it was to keep him from coming closer or getting farther away was unclear. The bruises and torn clothing could easily be explained away by the sparring, but every so often Sasuke’s hips would press into Hinata, causing her back to arch, causing an unintelligible groan.

“I can’t take it.” Hinata freed one of her hands and tugged at the top of Sasuke’s pants. “I can’t wait.”

Sasuke leaned his head back, taking a deep breath, shuddering. “Fuck it.”

Itachi snatched Neji away before they could see any more. The two walked back in silence, ignoring any sounds they heard, and didn’t stop walking until they were out of the Training Grounds all together and back on the main road. They stood in a stupor, their minds unfortunately working very well, and tried to beat down and sort through all the events that led up to this point.

In mutual agreement and silence, they located a bench and sat down. Itachi was the first to speak.

“How long have they-”

“I have no idea,” Neji said mechanically.

“I didn’t even know-”

“Me either.”

“I thought-”

“Me, too.”

Another long silence.

“At least they don’t hate each other,” Itachi said resignedly.

Neji laughed.

ok but.
i am laughing so hard.
and this is hilarious

and thank you

These two will wreck me. Snippet of a longer fic that may or may not get finished…

szajnie:

“Sasuke, you can’t scowl me away, so you may as well sit.” Hinata’s voice is quiet, laced with underlying gentleness and patience, and it deflates him–extinguishes his anger. He huffs a breath, dropping to sit in the grass beside her, lone arm across his bent knee.

She smiles at him then, radiant as the setting sun, and he fights against the urge to lean closer; to taste that smile for his own.

That is until she reaches out, tucks a daisy into his hair beside his ear with all the casual ease of their unexpected friendship, and giggles. “You look ridiculous,” she tells him. And Sasuke gives up–stops fighting against the inevitable–the battle for his bruised and battered heart long lost–and leans into her, catching that smile–her happiness–on his lips.

oh lovely!

szajnie:

More Cheerleadr!Hinata and Badboy!Sasuke.

I have a head-canon that he picks her up after practice on his motorcycle and takes her for long rides to all the scenic spots he likes to visit, but rarely shares with anyone because that would really screw with his uber rebel persona.

This AU keeps me up at night
