that moment when you wake up in the middle of the night and think you hooked up with someone who should have known better and you’re sad/mad (or SMAD, if you will)

Sasu-Hina Drabble

Walking around at night was not the kind of thing that she
did lightly. There were stories of drunkards and creepers and other nasties of
the nightmare realm that haunted her every step after dusk. Stories her cousin
had told with his serious no nonsense expression sealing them with a shiny
varnish of truth despite their fantastical paranoia.

Something major had to drive her out of doors anytime after
ten at night. A call from a friend, or a social event she did not want to miss
despite being torn about staying home knitting and watching old movies.

Four am, however was well past the realm of normal. Four am
was a true emergency. Four am meant panic.

“Wait!”

His voice echoed with a chilly clarity in the endless
silence of the empty streets and she chided herself for being glad to hear it.

“Hinata!”

Arms crossed protectively to keep her sweater closed she
picked up the pace so that her hips, stiff with sleep and the sudden chill
protested.

“You… unreasonable female!”

It almost sounded like a toddler tantrum, that snarl behind
her. Brows furrowed, jaw tight she plowed on, glancing back and forth along the
empty street with it’s golden streetlight glow before making a dash across the
four lanes.

“Hyuuga!”

“I… I do not wish to speak with you!”

“Do I look like a genie? I could hardly care what you wish
right now-“ Right behind her, that’s where he was and Hinata made a noise not
unlike a cat being chucked at water when his hand grabbed at her elbow.

“I will scream!” It was such a dramatic thing to say,
already so loud in the quiet sleepiness of a very early morning and Sasuke
Uchiha looked her straight in the face and rolled his eyes.

“Go ahead.”

It took only a moment for Hinata’s mouth to open for his
hand to slap out, cutting of the shrill shriek she was fairly sure would come
out weak kneed and useless but which seemed to do the trick in making him
finally take her seriously. “Alright, alright stop! Just give me a second to
explain!”

“Explain?” The muffled retort still managed to convey the
Hyuuga’s disbelief as she shook her head away from his hand. “You… you… you
took advantage of me!”

Sasuke blanched, something she had never seen him do before
and which she had to admit made a curious little splinter of doubt wiggle in
the back of her brain.

“You think I- we-,” he stopped, blinked at her for a moment
and then did the most un-Sasuke-like thing next to blanching that he could do. He
laughed.

Louder than any scream she could have provided, more riotous
than the waking birds disturbed by their dramatic discussion he shoved a hand
to his face and rubbed at the weariness that lingered there.

“For your information,” He began, induced to speak at the
look of disarmed disbelief on Hinata’s face. “You had a lot more of the wine at
Ino’s birthday dinner than you realized.”

“If you knew that then why would you-?”

“I only-“

“-take me home? Regardless of how I was behaving, it was
most ungentleman-like to…to take advantage of the fact I was-“

Sasuke cocked his head, frown sharp but eyes sharper. “Regardless
of how you were behaving? What exactly do you recall doing?”

It was then Hinata’s turn to blanch, followed by the most
infernal of all her blushes so that for a moment she thought the birds mistook
her for the sun as they whistled their first sleepy tunes.

“I…well, I… don’t make me say it!”

How could he ask that of her? It was bad enough she could
remember thinking about his mouth, about the flick of his tongue when he licked
the olive from his martini and the awful incriminating thoughts of how his kiss
would taste of liquor and sugar and spice.

Sasuke continued to stare, clever Uchiha brain rushing to
catch up for there was something to be said about that pink face, some tid bit
that might change his life if he could just grasp it fast enough, catch on and
exploit the frazzled widening of her eyes, the blatant pink hue overtaking her
face and neck.

“You…” He frowned, puzzle pieces slowly coming together as
he straightened, and then smirked. “You think you came on to me.”

Hinata blinked back, unsure if she had heard correctly
through her melting eardrums.

“I…d…did I…not?”

Smirk widening still Sasuke shoved his hands into the
pockets of his sweatpants, taking a languid easy step back and away before
turning around.

“You’re always going to wonder, aren’t you.” And it was not
a question, not when Hinata stumbled two steps after him, stunned by the fact
that the tables had turned and the chase which had sent her scrambling out of
his apartment and into the cold breeze of an early morning was now flipped on
it’s head.

“Wait a second!”

“Sticks and stones.” Sasuke sang in reply, a lilting tune
that froze her midstride. “May break my bones but…”

And the rest of the night came flooding back.

The wine and how fruity sweet it slid down her throat, how
pleasant it numbed her fingers and toes, the way her eyes lingered on his face,
on the way his neck stretched when he emptied his glass, the flicker of
curiosity in his gaze when he met her eyes.

Ino drunk and out of sorts carried home in Kiba’s arms, and
Hinata curled at the edge of the bar, with her head in her arms and her eyes
watching him the whole while.

They had thrown questions back and forth, those sober enough
not to slur. Who was driving who home? “I’ll take Ino and Shika, they can’t bus
like this.”

“That’s all the seats in the car, yes?”

“What about Tenten?”

“Lee took her home.”

“And Shino?”

“I have him, but the backseat is full.”

A long pause had followed as their eyes landed on her, and
she had waved cheerfully, propping her chin in her palm before motioning at
Sasuke to take her hand.

“I’ll take her home.” It had been reluctantly said.

All of the flirting she had thought she had done… had been
in her head.

He had walked her three blocks, with his arm around her
waist, supporting her uneasy stumbling gait. Had smirked at her singing, the
soft quiet tune about bones and words and dark eyed cute boys.

“Oh… God.” She
groaned, burying her face in her hands just loud enough for him to turn back
around, walking slowly the way he had come.

“It’s four in the morning, you’re still mostly drunk you
know.”

“I’m so stupid.”

“You really should sleep more.”

“How can you stand
me?”

“I make a mean cup of coffee.”

“I accused you of…oh my gooood.”

“Well.” Sasuke cocked his head, once more on the other side
of the road and waiting to see what she would do, but he was not worried. He
could see her eyes squinting at him through her fingers and the edge of her
mouth fighting off a smile.

“If you had indeed come on to me…” He shrugged, looked away
and waited for her wide open mouth to close before adding. “I won’t say I
wouldn’t have been tempted.”

It took a lot of effort to finally cross the street. But
when she finally did at least she wasn’t walking outside in the dark alone
anymore.

She held the child in her arms, small, dark haired and glaring. He held the other child in his arms, trembling, blushing and terrified. Black eyes met white with twin panic. “You… you… you appeared in my room!” Hinata raised the child who glared at Sasuke with a frown and he sucked in a breath as he tried desperately to fathom staring at his five year old self.

Just Jutsu? companion piece to 2:26am

The shelter was bare bones. A pair of poles, strategically placed knots on the ripped canvas of the waterproof sleeping bag and a pair of stubborn naked trees.

Beneath the shadow cast by this contraption the fire spat and sparked, disturbed by the drip drop of melting snowflakes sizzling to death in it’s embrace.
The ice had begun to come down slowly in the late afternoon, transforming the already chilly bare woods carpeted in gold and red leaf corpses into a cloud pierced by trunks of trees.

As the black of night fell in a hush they spread the wobbly roof over their heads, set the brittle twigs to burn and hunkered down to pass the night soon to feel endless.

It surprised him to feel the soft warmth at the back of his neck. It was a vulnerable spot, a sensitive spot. A place that could in the wrong hands be used to destroy him with the quick jab of a knife. All he was contained within those few inches of neck, unprotected by his gifted eyes.

Her breath bloomed soft as she pulled back just enough to whisper, “I’m so cold.”

This all would have been fine. Agreeable, in fact if for only a handful of things such as:

a) Hinata Hyuuga had never spoken the voice this creature was using. Deeper, breathier and…suggestive it went against all he had ever so much as considered to be part of the Hyuuga’s personality.

b)She was a kunoichi, of high rank and with an ingrained politeness that had never once in their professional and unremarkable acquaintance showed a single gram of interest towards touching him in any way.

c)With her face buried now between his shoulder blades, and her hands sliding to tuck into the folds of his clothes-presumably to warm her chilly fingers a reply of some sort was required of him.

Yet, he could not move.

Ah.

His mind worked, calculating and cold to decipher the meaning behind his current predicament. It naturally had to be jutsu. Someone was playing some sort of mind game with him and had obviously delved into the part of his brain where a single shameful memory lingered of a dream he had had weeks prior.
They were using his partner and those dreams to disarm him. Well, they were morons. He was Uchiha, he was not to be bested, especially by something as feeble as this ridiculous hallucination.

He felt rather than decided to breathe out in a huff of air that fogged before his face. Heat, silken smooth and delicious as well as strangely painful pooled over his belly button where Hinata’s hands had reached beneath his clothes. Palm flat, her fingers closed and opened in a soothing rhythmic pattern.

“Sasuke?”

This could not be happening. It was a dream- or rather, a nightmare. Likely as not his mission partner was in danger if she was not being subjected to similar.
Hinata’s body aligned with his, curling her knees into his, twining her feet and shifting her hips along his frame.

Soft and warm she let out a sigh against his neck that ruffled his hair and tickled his ear. “Sasuke?"

His limbs seemed to creak with the effort of moving. Whatever the jutsu was, it’s potency had to be commended. He could smell her. Part sweat, part sickly sweet forest leaves mid decomposition and part something else. Something with heat unlike pepper, but like…wine.

Get it together, damn it.

Twisting around to face her was the best he could do, and even that had his skin bristling with annoyance at the sudden feel of cold where her body had warmed and was no longer.

She looked like Hinata. Wide eyes, small nose, full mouth in a half pout of confusion. Her hair fell in a silk black pattern across her cheek. HIs fingers twitched and he marvelled that he had considered reaching out to push the darkness of the locks back.

"I’m very cold.” She had upgraded the sentence, and as he looked back at her he blinked slowly, gathering together a sharp reprimand that would surely get her to snap out of it.

The words ended up being tugged out of his brain by the chilly breeze that swept over them, unimportant when she leaned forward and pressed her lips to his.

Definitely jutsu.

Gently her lips brushed over the skin of his mouth, the friction a burn he thought unequal to the stimulus. Careful, as though it was an art she had perfected, as difficult to achieve as calligraphy her lips parted, her sigh whispered over him and her tongue slid warm on his bottom lip.

There were no words with which to reply. He wanted to be shocked, to move and shove her to rip apart the jutsu but instead a sound was born in his throat, a twisted fervent moan of a sound. A want.

Slow as the methodical overflowing of a river bank her kiss deepened, her fingers shifted to the belt at his waist, her shoulder pushing him onto his back as her leg slid over his hips.

Jutsu. It’s just justsu.

His wrists felt weaker than normal, any attempt to grip her hips not releasing the pressure he required. Curtained in the dark by her mane of black hair he shivered, no longer from the cold as her mouth pried him apart and her tongue gently coaxed a moan from his throat.

It’s just like the dream. It’s not real.

Her hips shifted, grinding painfully slow against him so that as she pulled away he could do nothing but close his eyes and try to breathe.

What the hell am I doing?

It was a feeble shamed whisper of a question, because he knew the answer. He knew it in his marrow.

Her fingers fiddled with the belt, with the buttons, with the elastic of his underwear beneath. The tips of that hand were warm now, smooth and toasty as they played with the elastic. Elegantly she leaned forward, breasts pressed to his chest so even his strangled breath was a beautiful torture.

Pale eyes calm, she studied his face, the stupefied confusion and mild worry with interest. “You are always so talkative. Are you all right?”

The roll of her hips once more forced him to close his eyes, to gasp again, to remain silent. Unconcerned by his lack of reply she slid her lips from his chin to the solid curve of his jaw.

“If I am cold you must be too. I can warm you up though, yes?”

No, no, no. Snap out of it.

No longer playing her small elegant hand burrowed further into his clothing, snapping his eyes open to the dark of night spotted with stars, with clouds, with swirling snowflake patterns.

“Sasuke,”

Her mouth was so warm.

I am on fire.

“Are you warm yet?”

It hurt to wake. Limbs stiff with the cold, dusted in snow, shivering violently he shifted and froze.

Hinata lay beside him curled in fetal position and so pale there was a tinge of blue to her mouth. If not for the steady puffs of fog before her face at every breath he would have thought the worst.

Unsure of himself, or his reality he let his eyes shift taking in the darkness of the sky and the brightness of the moon. Besides the bitter whisper of the winter wind there was no sign of movement. With the charred remnants of the fire before him he swallowed.

He must have simply fallen asleep.

Surely… he just…

When his gaze slid back to Hinata the paleness of her face had faded to a rampant red flush, and her gray eyes stared with a knowingness that made him doubt.

Breath snagged, painful as a splinter in his chest he stared back unable to decide if he had dreamed or if he had sinned.

2:26am

Sometimes I write things where the prompt is the time when i started the fic. Here you go.

Her eyes opened to the subdued glow of her alarm clock. It’s face was round, a little moon of light that pulsed in rhythm with her breath and woke her when it registered her REM sleep cycle had ended and would not begin again until it was too late to rise and go to work.

Or at least, that was the intended purpose of her gently luminous clock. No wind chimes rang from it’s little speakers, no birds chirped and after a moment of letting her eyes focus on the numbers she realized why.

2:26 am.

“Oh.”
Groggily she pushed up onto her elbow and sighed at the feel of her covers sliding smooth against her skin, bare everywhere so that she startled and sat up fully, hands gripping the sheets to her chest despite the fact no one was there to see her.

In the dark she rubbed at her face with her wrist, confused by the bareness of her shoulders and back. Had she fallen asleep after bathing? Her memory yawned back with a lack of interest that was unnerving. Had she even bathed? Fingers moving through her long black hair for a sign of damp she found nothing.

Then a warmth bloomed on the small of her bare back and a male’s voice whispered. “Hinata?”

The gasp slammed into the back of her throat as she ripped out of the bed, dragging the sheets with her so that the tall and angular shape of the man beside her came into view in the dim half light.

Only a skylight shone any sort of illumination into her room. Her eyes were all seeing and any light at all made it difficult to sleep. Black out curtains hid her from the world and the chances of someone seeing her struggle with the intruder were-

“Hinata.” Chidding. The possible rapist was scolding her? “What are you doing?”

As her eyes adjusted to the moonlight she breathed in, feeling distinctly the vague unearthly nature of her situation.

“S…Sasuke?"

There he was, head tilted tiredly onto his shoulder where he still lay on the bed. His hair a mess of darkness hiding half his face but not his down turned mouth.

He was bare chested… perhaps bare everything if she was honest. The edge of the sheet she now held to her chest to preserve her modesty was also hiding his. If she moved further away as her heart desperately screamed she do he would be bared.

Wound like a soon to snap rubber band she stared. "What… what are you doing?”

“I was sleeping.” He replied, his tart tone not appreciated considering the circumstances. “Until you decided to be a blanket hog. What is the matter with you? You are cold, look at you shivering.”

Lips parted with a space between them where words should have been Hinata drew a shaky breath that trembled as the rest of her did. “Y…You’re in my bed.”

How could he not realize this was not okay? How did he get into her apartment in the first place? She turned, examining her surroundings once more in a daze.

“Yes, I am aware that I’m in our bed.” Irritation dripped from every vowel and she watched with growing alarm as he pushed himself to his feet, revealing that thankfully he was wearing boxers at least.

Still, that left her rather at a loss.

Our?”

His slow steps around the bed had the idle sluggishness of sleep. Deep sleep that had been disturbed unexpectedly and still clung to his senses. It clung to her own too so that her feet tangled on the mess of sheet and before she knew it she was tripping over herself.

“Are you even awake?” Sasuke snapped, rushing forward and scooping her up off the floor.

There were three responses to terror, this Hinata knew. The first and most common was flight, demonstrated by most animals in fear as they tucked tail and ran as fast as they could from danger.

The second being fight was the moment when wolves bared their teeth and held their ground, or when bucks lowered their heads and stormed forward muscles flexed.

The last was less common, but still prevalent and required the terrified to freeze. She had always thought at the very least she would be a flight person in a real emergency but it turned out that her muscles betrayed her and instead of flying into a rage at the feel of his arms beneath her bare legs, his hand dangerously close to her bare boob she lay there in his arms and gaped.

“You are freezing and I am fairly sure you are sleep walking.” He muttered. “A first. You are going to be very embarrassed in the morning.”

Fingers knuckle white on the sheet that hid the very last dregs of her modesty Hinata blinked hard. She felt the softness of the mattress as he lowered her easily onto the bed, and promptly without any sort of warning climbed on top.

A voice within screamed, a roar that rang in her ears and echoed like a distant star exploding. Another equally fervent voice whispered: Just. Wait.

She did not have to wait long.

Straddling her waist with barely two items of fabric between them he leaned down, forearms caging her face and studying the wide eyed stare with which she studied him back.

“You always look so stunned.” His murmur was more of a rumble in his chest, the first quiet groans of thunder rather than a voice.

She herself had lost all vocal ability and instead closed and opened her eyes, focusing on breathing with every slow blink.

“You should sleep.” He continued, and his lips brushed hers as he spoke. The breath escaped her shakily at the lick of fire on her skin where he touched. The weight of him, and the warmth seeping through the sheet making her heart knock against his chest as well as her own.

Dark eyes intent on her shudder, on the strained whisper of a moan on her sigh he smiled, a thing she had never seen on Sasuke Uchiha before.

It made her mouth part with the surprise of what it did to his features, how it softened his gaze, plumped his mouth, smoothed his brow.

That was of course when he kissed her.

It was not a first kiss, it was not a second kiss. This was a kiss coming with familiarity and kindness that was at once deliberately slow and intentionally heated. The warm sweet of his tongue caressed her own and Hinata felt her fingers go slack on  the sheets at the same time that her hips pressed against his.

His soft groan was muffled against her mouth and breaking away he gasped to catch the breath trying to escape him. “You know you drive me mad when you do that."

There was that chiding tone again, as if Sasuke Uchiha had ever had enough conversations with her to merit that kind of familiarity.

Although, what did she know? She could still taste him on her lips.

"Fine.” This was delivered with a nibble on her earlobe that forced her to close her eyes at the sensation. “Fine. I’ll make you speak.”

Taking his time, slowly and with care he moved his mouth down from her ear to the length of her neck and the place at her chest where her collarbone peeked.

Her sigh was no sigh she had ever breathed before. It caressed her vocal chords as he slid his hand, slow and luxurious over the curve of her ribs and towards her navel.

It creeped, warm and firm as well as gentle so that it occurred to her with a awed terror that if he stopped she would beg him to continue on his slow southern path.

With his lips pressed to her neck she felt him say the words more than heard, eyes closing as her tummy melted to a soft malleable pool of lava.

“I’ll make you gasp my name.”

Wind chimes.

Her gasp had a shape, among it’s breathy tones had been a name.

His name.

Hinata flopped onto her back, staring at the skylight above her bed, and at the brightness of a coming dawn washing over the glass.

Her lollipop pajamas were stuck to her skin. The dream had raised her body temperature, had tangled her hair and flushed her face.

Beside her the softly glowing clock giggled with it’s wind chime song and she let her hand slam onto it with a bang.

No sooner had she annihilated that melody than another took it’s place.

Ding Dong.

Rubbing at her lashes she scrambled from the bed, surprised to have a visitor before eight in the morning. Wrapping herself in her housecoat she ran down the hall of her flat to the front door at the sound of a fist pounding impatiently on the other side.

“H-hello?” Startled she peered around the doorway and froze.

There he was. As tall, broad shouldered and real as her dream had been, decked in the usual Anbu black, his mask at his side.

She tried to say his name but choked. Her brain was occupied with other things, namely replaying her dream in a rapid succession of slides through her mind and reminding her how it felt to have his hand on her bare stomach.

“Hyuuga. The Hokage has requested your services for a mission. It’s urgent.” He tilted his head slightly watching as Hinata still clearly sleepy began  slowly changing color.

“Are you fit for active duty, Hyuuga?”

“Y-yes! Yes of course. I… I will be, um only a moment,” she moved to close the door and then felt her muscles stutter to a halt.

“Ah… um…c-come in, I’ll just change.” Rubbing her hands nervously on her thighs she left the door without waiting for him to agree or disagree, head ducked to avoid looking at herself in her hall mirror as she passed into her room and closed the door.

Some very heavy breathing and a lot of calming techniques later she was finally dressed. Face still flushed but at the very least no longer shaking like a leaf she stepped back into the hall where he waited, looking out at the rising sun.

At the sound of her approach he turned dark eyes lighting on her before snapping away. “Did you sleep well ?”

Stiffening at his question she stared, watching as he turned back to her slowly, eyes flickering from her gaze to her mouth and back. “It could be a one day mission or over a week, depending on variables. If you are not well rested, I should know.”

Stomach twisting painfully Hinata rolled her shoulder back as though to loosen an old injury although really it was more to keep from crumbling until her shoulders were at her ears and her face in her hands.

“I will be all right.”

“I could have slept better myself.” Sasuke commented, stepping through her door and into the brightness of the day. “Woke up at 2:26 this morning.”

It was said so calmly, so nonchalantly that Hinata simply stayed where she was, straining not to move.

Freezing, it seemed was truly her mode of panic.

Sasuke turned when he sensed her lack of steps, eyes startled over her stunned face, her flushed cheeks and the furious bite she was taking of her lip.

Eyes snagging on that one movement he let out a breath, and she watched with a sort of fascination akin to horror as he did the one thing she had thought no Uchiha could do.

He blushed.

“Time of is of the essence.” He turned and disappeared out the door. “We best hurry.”

Hinata paid him no heed, instead focused on breathing, on not fainting and on trying to figure out if she had indeed dreamed.
