Sometimes I write things where the prompt is the time when i started the fic. Here you go.
Her eyes opened to the subdued glow of her alarm clock. It’s face was round, a little moon of light that pulsed in rhythm with her breath and woke her when it registered her REM sleep cycle had ended and would not begin again until it was too late to rise and go to work.
Or at least, that was the intended purpose of her gently luminous clock. No wind chimes rang from it’s little speakers, no birds chirped and after a moment of letting her eyes focus on the numbers she realized why.
2:26 am.
“Oh.”
Groggily she pushed up onto her elbow and sighed at the feel of her covers sliding smooth against her skin, bare everywhere so that she startled and sat up fully, hands gripping the sheets to her chest despite the fact no one was there to see her.
In the dark she rubbed at her face with her wrist, confused by the bareness of her shoulders and back. Had she fallen asleep after bathing? Her memory yawned back with a lack of interest that was unnerving. Had she even bathed? Fingers moving through her long black hair for a sign of damp she found nothing.
Then a warmth bloomed on the small of her bare back and a male’s voice whispered. “Hinata?”
The gasp slammed into the back of her throat as she ripped out of the bed, dragging the sheets with her so that the tall and angular shape of the man beside her came into view in the dim half light.
Only a skylight shone any sort of illumination into her room. Her eyes were all seeing and any light at all made it difficult to sleep. Black out curtains hid her from the world and the chances of someone seeing her struggle with the intruder were-
“Hinata.” Chidding. The possible rapist was scolding her? “What are you doing?”
As her eyes adjusted to the moonlight she breathed in, feeling distinctly the vague unearthly nature of her situation.
“S…Sasuke?"
There he was, head tilted tiredly onto his shoulder where he still lay on the bed. His hair a mess of darkness hiding half his face but not his down turned mouth.
He was bare chested… perhaps bare everything if she was honest. The edge of the sheet she now held to her chest to preserve her modesty was also hiding his. If she moved further away as her heart desperately screamed she do he would be bared.
Wound like a soon to snap rubber band she stared. "What… what are you doing?”
“I was sleeping.” He replied, his tart tone not appreciated considering the circumstances. “Until you decided to be a blanket hog. What is the matter with you? You are cold, look at you shivering.”
Lips parted with a space between them where words should have been Hinata drew a shaky breath that trembled as the rest of her did. “Y…You’re in my bed.”
How could he not realize this was not okay? How did he get into her apartment in the first place? She turned, examining her surroundings once more in a daze.
“Yes, I am aware that I’m in our bed.” Irritation dripped from every vowel and she watched with growing alarm as he pushed himself to his feet, revealing that thankfully he was wearing boxers at least.
Still, that left her rather at a loss.
“Our?”
His slow steps around the bed had the idle sluggishness of sleep. Deep sleep that had been disturbed unexpectedly and still clung to his senses. It clung to her own too so that her feet tangled on the mess of sheet and before she knew it she was tripping over herself.
“Are you even awake?” Sasuke snapped, rushing forward and scooping her up off the floor.
There were three responses to terror, this Hinata knew. The first and most common was flight, demonstrated by most animals in fear as they tucked tail and ran as fast as they could from danger.
The second being fight was the moment when wolves bared their teeth and held their ground, or when bucks lowered their heads and stormed forward muscles flexed.
The last was less common, but still prevalent and required the terrified to freeze. She had always thought at the very least she would be a flight person in a real emergency but it turned out that her muscles betrayed her and instead of flying into a rage at the feel of his arms beneath her bare legs, his hand dangerously close to her bare boob she lay there in his arms and gaped.
“You are freezing and I am fairly sure you are sleep walking.” He muttered. “A first. You are going to be very embarrassed in the morning.”
Fingers knuckle white on the sheet that hid the very last dregs of her modesty Hinata blinked hard. She felt the softness of the mattress as he lowered her easily onto the bed, and promptly without any sort of warning climbed on top.
A voice within screamed, a roar that rang in her ears and echoed like a distant star exploding. Another equally fervent voice whispered: Just. Wait.
She did not have to wait long.
Straddling her waist with barely two items of fabric between them he leaned down, forearms caging her face and studying the wide eyed stare with which she studied him back.
“You always look so stunned.” His murmur was more of a rumble in his chest, the first quiet groans of thunder rather than a voice.
She herself had lost all vocal ability and instead closed and opened her eyes, focusing on breathing with every slow blink.
“You should sleep.” He continued, and his lips brushed hers as he spoke. The breath escaped her shakily at the lick of fire on her skin where he touched. The weight of him, and the warmth seeping through the sheet making her heart knock against his chest as well as her own.
Dark eyes intent on her shudder, on the strained whisper of a moan on her sigh he smiled, a thing she had never seen on Sasuke Uchiha before.
It made her mouth part with the surprise of what it did to his features, how it softened his gaze, plumped his mouth, smoothed his brow.
That was of course when he kissed her.
It was not a first kiss, it was not a second kiss. This was a kiss coming with familiarity and kindness that was at once deliberately slow and intentionally heated. The warm sweet of his tongue caressed her own and Hinata felt her fingers go slack on the sheets at the same time that her hips pressed against his.
His soft groan was muffled against her mouth and breaking away he gasped to catch the breath trying to escape him. “You know you drive me mad when you do that."
There was that chiding tone again, as if Sasuke Uchiha had ever had enough conversations with her to merit that kind of familiarity.
Although, what did she know? She could still taste him on her lips.
"Fine.” This was delivered with a nibble on her earlobe that forced her to close her eyes at the sensation. “Fine. I’ll make you speak.”
Taking his time, slowly and with care he moved his mouth down from her ear to the length of her neck and the place at her chest where her collarbone peeked.
Her sigh was no sigh she had ever breathed before. It caressed her vocal chords as he slid his hand, slow and luxurious over the curve of her ribs and towards her navel.
It creeped, warm and firm as well as gentle so that it occurred to her with a awed terror that if he stopped she would beg him to continue on his slow southern path.
With his lips pressed to her neck she felt him say the words more than heard, eyes closing as her tummy melted to a soft malleable pool of lava.
“I’ll make you gasp my name.”
Wind chimes.
Her gasp had a shape, among it’s breathy tones had been a name.
His name.
Hinata flopped onto her back, staring at the skylight above her bed, and at the brightness of a coming dawn washing over the glass.
Her lollipop pajamas were stuck to her skin. The dream had raised her body temperature, had tangled her hair and flushed her face.
Beside her the softly glowing clock giggled with it’s wind chime song and she let her hand slam onto it with a bang.
No sooner had she annihilated that melody than another took it’s place.
Ding Dong.
Rubbing at her lashes she scrambled from the bed, surprised to have a visitor before eight in the morning. Wrapping herself in her housecoat she ran down the hall of her flat to the front door at the sound of a fist pounding impatiently on the other side.
“H-hello?” Startled she peered around the doorway and froze.
There he was. As tall, broad shouldered and real as her dream had been, decked in the usual Anbu black, his mask at his side.
She tried to say his name but choked. Her brain was occupied with other things, namely replaying her dream in a rapid succession of slides through her mind and reminding her how it felt to have his hand on her bare stomach.
“Hyuuga. The Hokage has requested your services for a mission. It’s urgent.” He tilted his head slightly watching as Hinata still clearly sleepy began slowly changing color.
“Are you fit for active duty, Hyuuga?”
“Y-yes! Yes of course. I… I will be, um only a moment,” she moved to close the door and then felt her muscles stutter to a halt.
“Ah… um…c-come in, I’ll just change.” Rubbing her hands nervously on her thighs she left the door without waiting for him to agree or disagree, head ducked to avoid looking at herself in her hall mirror as she passed into her room and closed the door.
Some very heavy breathing and a lot of calming techniques later she was finally dressed. Face still flushed but at the very least no longer shaking like a leaf she stepped back into the hall where he waited, looking out at the rising sun.
At the sound of her approach he turned dark eyes lighting on her before snapping away. “Did you sleep well ?”
Stiffening at his question she stared, watching as he turned back to her slowly, eyes flickering from her gaze to her mouth and back. “It could be a one day mission or over a week, depending on variables. If you are not well rested, I should know.”
Stomach twisting painfully Hinata rolled her shoulder back as though to loosen an old injury although really it was more to keep from crumbling until her shoulders were at her ears and her face in her hands.
“I will be all right.”
“I could have slept better myself.” Sasuke commented, stepping through her door and into the brightness of the day. “Woke up at 2:26 this morning.”
It was said so calmly, so nonchalantly that Hinata simply stayed where she was, straining not to move.
Freezing, it seemed was truly her mode of panic.
Sasuke turned when he sensed her lack of steps, eyes startled over her stunned face, her flushed cheeks and the furious bite she was taking of her lip.
Eyes snagging on that one movement he let out a breath, and she watched with a sort of fascination akin to horror as he did the one thing she had thought no Uchiha could do.
He blushed.
“Time of is of the essence.” He turned and disappeared out the door. “We best hurry.”
Hinata paid him no heed, instead focused on breathing, on not fainting and on trying to figure out if she had indeed dreamed.
